In 2018, while working at the City of Jackson we authored a grant through AARP to design/build the first parklet in Downtown Jackson. The AARP Communities Challenge supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and rural areas to be great places for people of all ages. The parklet is positioned in front of two downtown restaurants and residential units in the Plaza Building. The intervention takes over four on street parking spaces and in return provides a dynamic public space streetscape that is on axis with Mississippi Capitol. The parklet is also accompanied with a new bike repair station and bicycle racks. We opened the parklet on PARKing Day, a national holiday dedicated towards rethinking how much parking we have here in the United States.
